#LETSCHAT: Meet Kathryn Gray of @Blonde.Health
It was just last Fall while doing the late night Instagram perusing I have come to know far too well, that I stumbled upon Kathryn Gray and her fitness lifestyle feed. Scrolling through the foodie-fitness finds of the picture-driven world of Instagram, I stumbled upon a breakfast dish Kathryn had posted, and upon further scrolling, the adorable gal behind @Blonde.Health.
Over the past year, I've gotten a chance to connect with my insta-friend from the UK. Through this interview, I discovered that we have a lot of similarities, like having a background in Fashion Marketing and a love for health and wellness. Kathryn's feed is filled with plenty of inspiration and information for living a healthier life as she shares with us healthy meals and fitness tips.
When I introduced this series of interviews last Fall with the amazing women that inspire me. This weekly series is based on incredible, strong and empowering individuals that inspire me through health and wellness. Kathryn is definitely one of them; and, I hope she can inspire you as well through her fitness journey and food philosophy.

VF: TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF: WHAT DO YOU DO, LOCATION, HOBBIES...
KG: I’m a Fashion Promotion graduate from Leamington Spa. UK. After working in fashion marketing, in London, for two years I found that I wasn’t truly fulfilled with that path and instead was becoming more and more interested in the health and fitness industry. I decided to take a leap and change my career, and so over the last year, I have been implementing my marketing skills in building and monetizing my social platforms and learning as much as I can about nutrition and training to build a great physique. I’m currently studying for certifications in Gym instructing and Personal Training and make content for Instagram, YouTube, and my website. I love being creative so I can usually be found creating photos and videos for my platforms, making crafts and decor for my home, testing new recipes, and getting my hands dirty in the garden.
VF: WHAT GOT YOU INTO HEALTH + FITNESS?
KG: It’s funny, I was always the least sporty person at school and would do anything to get out of gym class! My life came to a turning point when I at university and I realized just how unhappy I was with my body. I had developed a spinal deformity in my teens that was causing me chronic pain and snapping at my willpower. In addition, I was leading an unhealthy lifestyle for both my body and my mind and began suffering from anxiety as a result. I knew I needed to make changes but was so terrified of exercise and felt so inadequate when it came to physical activity as I have always been skinny and weak. I started cleaning up my diet and watching youtube videos of easy home workouts I could do to tone my muscles and yoga flows to help with my posture. From there I progressed onto using light weights for plyometric workouts and fast forward to now I’m obsessed with bodybuilding and strength training! I now feel vibrant, strong, and happier than I’ve ever been because of the changes I’ve made. YouTube fitness gurus like Rebecca Louise, Heidi Somers, and Christian Guzman changed my life for the better by educating and inspiring me, and I aim to do the same thing for others by sharing my knowledge and journey.
VF: WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS SECRET?
KG: Eat lots of protein and get enough sleep! 1g - 1.5g of protein per lb of your bodyweight per day and at least 8 hours of sleep per night. High protein and lots of sleep will help you recover and distress, repair your muscles, grow your hair, and revive your skin!
VF: WHAT IS YOUR MANTRA/WORDS TO LIVE BY?
KG: Learn more, dream more, be more!
VF: I'M INSPIRED BY YOU AND YOUR AMAZING TIPS AND BITS ABOUT YOU THAT YOU SHARE ON INSTA AND ON YOUTUBE. WHAT OR WHO INSPIRES YOU?
KG: I’m inspired by you, Valerie! I love seeing you being creative in the kitchen and reading your articles. I’m inspired by the fitness community on Instagram, all the people that share with me and interact with me are a constant reminder to me to keep challenging myself with my workouts and keep pushing to create more valuable content for them and others. I follow daily blogger, entrepreneur, and fitness competitor Christian Guzman on YouTube and his intense work ethic and drive inspire me everyday to do more and keep striving to become better.
VF: ON YOUTUBE, YOU SHARE SO MUCH ABOUT YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY AND LIFE IN GENERAL. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU’LL BE SHARING?
KG: My aim for my youtube is to provide all the information I wish I’d known when I started in one place, so there’s less time lost on trial an error for beginners. I listen to what my followers want and try and make the most helpful videos I can for them. There is so much confusing and conflicting information out there in regards to diet and training, so I try and summarise the scientific facts and weigh in with my own anecdotes and opinions.
Kathryn aims to help inspire other by sharing her knowledge and journey.
VF: TELL US YOUR MOST PERFECT DAY. HOW WOULD YOU SPEND IT? WHAT WOULD YOU YOU DO?
KG: I’d meet up with my friends I’ve made through social media and go to brunch and get a workout in together! Hopefully, someone would bring a dog for me to pet! I’m so grateful for the support of the like minded women I’ve become friends with online, getting to meet them in person and share with them is truly fulfilling makes everything I do feel worth it.
VF: OK, NOW, WHAT IS YOUR DAY REALLY LIKE?
KG: I wake up and catch up on my social media, reply to comments and emails then do some stretching and usually go to the gym. I spend most of my day on creative tasks like photography, cooking, writing, or filming, with some errands thrown in there too. In the evening I usually study and research for new ideas. I love what I do and I’m incredibly grateful for the lifestyle I currently have, even if it means it’s a full-time plus more job to keep afloat.
VF: WHAT IS YOUR RECIPE FOR A HAPPY, HEALTHY LIFE?
KG: Good food, good company, a fulfilling path, regular exercise, and a constant challenge!
VF: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GO-TO FOOD?
KG: Oats with all the toppings, I could eat them for every meal.

KG: An hour working on deadlifts! There are few things more satisfying than ripping heavyweight off the floor with your bare hands.

KG: My water bottle! I have a beautiful wood grain effect one from Swell that keeps my water ice cold for hours. I take it everywhere I go and get into a minor panic whenever I think I’ve forgotten it! #hydration

KG: Eat better, not less!
“BEST HEALTHY RESTAURANT TIP:”
KG: Ask for the vegan menu! Most UK restaurants have one now and you can find some great new things to try on them.
